Robert (Bob) Layton Haley

July 13,1934 – March 15, 2026

Bob was second born to Patrick Layton Haley and Marylouise Autry Haley on July 13, 1934, in Alice, Texas. The family later moved to Harlingen where Bob grew up and was involved in football in Jr high and high school.

As a Sea Scout, he earned merits and accomplished the STAR rank. This was the beginning of his love for sailing. He lived and worked in Port Isabel, Texas for a short time.

In 1954, Bob moved to Corpus Christi to attend Del Mar College, but found he needed 3 more high school credits. So, he enrolled in Miller High School where he met Kay Able, his love for life.

Bob began attending Second Baptist Church with Kay and her family. There he came to know Jesus as his Savior and was later baptized.

In September, 1955, he began working at Southwestern Oil and Refining Co. Kay and Bob were married the following year, September 1956. January 1957, he was called into the US Army to serve 6 years total. A daughter, Brenda was born during this time.

Bob returned to Corpus Christi after serving two years active duty in the US Army to continue work at Southwestern Oil and Refining Co. There he and Kay settled and raised a family. In the 1960’s, two sons, Layton and Mark were born.

In 1970, the Haley family moved to the Calallen area and joined the fellowship of Calallen Baptist Church. Together they served for 55 years, Bob, as an ordained deacon, served maintaining the building, grounds and equipment. He especially enjoyed helping in the church day school.

Bob also enjoyed working with wood projects. This was the reason for a workshop which he planned and built on Monta Dr. Over the years, he remodeled their home from his shop as well as helping neighbors or friends with repairs, maintenance and building projects at church.

Throughout his life, Bob’s favorite past times included sailing, fishing (floundering) and camping on the Frio River with family and friends.

When Bob fully retired, he and Kay volunteered with the Texas Baptist Men (aka Texans On Mission). This required travel pulling an RV. Pulling the RV, traveling with friends and family was a treat. They enjoyed 2 cruises, Alaska and Panama Canal with church friends.

In August 2025, Bob moved with Kay to Longview, TX to be near family. He passed into eternal life on March 15, 2026. We are comforted knowing he is in heaven with our Lord and will be together in the future.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Marylouise and Patrick Haley older brother James Haley, sister-in-law Jane, niece Laura Taylor and nephew, Patrick Haley, a younger brother Michael Haley and younger brother Patrick Haley and niece Kim Haley, great grandson, Brooks Ford.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kay of 69 years, of Longview, TX and daughter, Brenda, son in law, Jeff Ford of Marshall, TX, grandson Corbin Ford and wife, Kelsie Ford , great-granddaughter Bravery Ford and great-grandson Avinger Ford of Bethel, AK, and grandson Ethan Ford of Anchorage, AK, son Layton of Houston, TX, grandson Tyler Haley of Ingleside, TX, and son Mark and wife, Karen Haley of Coconut Creek, Fl and granddaughter, Kayla Haley of New York City. Survived by many nieces and nephews including niece Debbie Haley Taylor and her daughter Morgan and granddaughter Mady of Hockley, TX and nephew, Clark Haley and wife Michelle of Jupiter, FL.

Bob is remembered by many, because of his love and care through the gifts God gave him, the gift of “helps”.
