Ruth Evelyn McGregor Miller descendant of pioneer south Texas families, passed away November 9, 2017. She was born August 17, 1922 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Earl Leon and Esilla Claire Wright McGregor. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1930. Attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas and graduated from Texas A&I University. On June 11, 1942 Ruth married Wilton A. Miller. She has a 30 year career as a public school teacher. Most of those years for Orange Grove ISD. She loved playing the piano, whether for classrooms, friends or church services. She loved music, dancing, reading and travel, but most of all her husband of 41 years. After Wilton’s death she lived in the San Antonio, Calallen, Beeville and Portland areas. She attended First United Methodist Church of Corpus Christi, Christ Lutheran Church of Corpus Christi, First Evangelical Lutheran of Orange Grove, St. Stephens Lutheran Church of Portland and First United Methodist in Beeville, Texas. A member of Tuesday Study Club of Orange Grove, Corpus Christi Town Hall, Revelaires Dance Club, Telephone Pioneers’ Club, Southside Lions Club, and Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs. Preceded is in death by her parents and her husband. Ruth is survived by her son, Alfred “Fred” Miller (Sandra), daughter, Lynda Claire Hamlin (Dennis); grandchildren , Amy McAfee (Tyler), Virginia Hudson Jester (Josh), Ryan W. Miller; great grandchildren, Wilton Hobbs, Allison and Aidan McAfee and one sister, Mary Margaret McGregor of Ava, Illinois. Visitation will be from 6 PM until 8 PM Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 10 AM Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 A.M. in the Seaside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a contribution to a charity of your choice, Nueces County Historical Association, First Evangelical Lutheran of Orange Grove, Texas or South Texas Children Home.
