Sharon Moore

June 30, 1944 — January 2, 2026

Corpus Christi

Sharon Mussett Moore, a cherished educator whose kindness and passion shaped generations of students, passed away on January 2, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.

Sharon Mussett Moore was born to E.T. “Boots” and Christine Mussett on June 30, 1944 in Beeville, Texas.

She obtained a bachelor in Education from the formerly named Texas A&I University and a Masters in Education from the formerly named Corpus Christi State University.

In 1965, she married her college sweetheart David Eugene Wilds, and together they shared 23 beautiful years together and built a family. After his passing in 1988 she found love again and married Richard Lee Moore in 1991. They shared 34 years of marriage, attending family events, sporting events, companionship, and adventures together.

She devoted her life to teaching, all grade levels in several school districts in South Texas, believing deeply in the power of education to change lives, open doors, and build confidence in every child who entered her classroom. She had a gift for making learning feel exciting and possible, meeting every child exactly where they were and encouraging them to become their best selves. Former students often returned to tell her how her encouragement had guided them long after they left her classroom.

Beyond the lessons she taught, it was her warmth, humor, patience, and unwavering belief in young people that made her unforgettable. Colleagues admired her dedication and compassion; students adored her gentle spirit and the laughter that so often filled her room. She built a life full of joy with many years volunteering at the Nueces County Jr Livestock Show, and she especially loved her church family and friends; in particular the women’s retreats. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren watching them participate in sports and showing their livestock.

After her short-lived retirement from teaching, she became known as ‘Mama Moore’ for the many athletes her husband coached, and started a new adventure in real estate for several years where she made several lifelong friends. However, her desire to teach brought her back to TMISD and the Academic Career Center where she felt she needed to be.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Richard Moore; her children, Jennifer Wendland, Traci De Alejandro, Richard Moore(Becky), Ashley Wagner(Thad),and Jennifer Johns(Gordan); her cherished grandchildren, Jordan Garza(Bryan), Michaela Wendland, Rene De Alejandro, Matthew Wagner, Jake Wagner, Patrick Moore, Emma Moore, Aiden Johns and Wyatt Johns; and her great-grandchildren Tarynn and Tathen Garza. Her beloved nephews Stephen Martin (Denese) and John Martin (Marlo). Her special cousins Cyndi Taylor Krier and Ann Malone Winkle. Many cherished great nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention her guardian angels and neighbors Charlotte and Bubba Stovall.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, David Eugene Wilds; her parents, Boots and Christine Mussett; her brother, Pat Mussett, and sister Grace Martin.

Those who mourn her loss who will forever carry her love and wisdom in their hearts. She leaves behind not only a grieving family but a wide community of former students, coworkers, and friends who were immeasurably touched by her presence. Her legacy lives on in every mind she helped shape and every life she quietly changed. The world is better because she was here
