In Loving Memory of Theresa Murphy
April 25, 1960 – April 13, 2026
Theresa Murphy, 65, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on April 13, 2026, finally succumbing to her years-long battle with Alzheimer's and Dementia. She leaves behind a legacy defined by kindness, curiosity, and a lifelong devotion to "all God’s creatures."
Born on April 25, 1960, to Katherine and Ray Nikel, Theresa grew up with a spirit that couldn't be contained by tradition. While other little girls played with dolls, Theresa was busy with GI Joes and Hot Wheels, or tearing across the family farm on her dirt bike. A proud graduate of Spring Branch High School in Houston, she carried that same adventurous energy into adulthood.
Theresa dedicated her professional life to the next generation, beginning her career as a teacher before finding her true calling in her later years as a school librarian. Her love for stories was matched only by her love for the students she guided.
In 2001, she married Kelly Murphy, and together they built a life centered on shared passions. Whether they were under the hood of a classic car, cruising the open road, or enjoying the energy of a classic rock concert, they were a team. Theresa’s home was also a sanctuary for wildlife; her legendary devotion to her "furry and feathery" friends meant weekly trips to the feed store to keep her 187 bird feeders full.
Theresa was preceded in death by her father, Ray Nikel. She is survived by her devoted husband, Kelly Murphy; her mother, Katherine Nikel; her siblings, Ray and Sue; her sons, Christopher and Ryan Caronna; her step-children, Katrina and Mitchell Murphy; and four cherished grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Theresa’s sweet disposition and genuine heart endeared her to everyone she met. She will be deeply missed by her family, her community, and the countless small lives she sustained in her backyard sanctuary.
