Thomas Orland Crossland Sr., age 80, passed away on April 29, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on October 31, 1944, in Sabinal, Texas, Tommy lived a life marked by resilience, hard work, and an unwavering dedication to his family and those around him.Though he completed only a ninth-grade education, Tommy never let that define or limit him. From a young age, he entered the oil and gas industry as a roughneck-a demanding and often unforgiving line of work. But Tommy was never one to shy away from hard labor. His determination and grit propelled him forward, and over time he became a respected fishing tool operator and supervisor in the oil field. He was known throughout the industry as someone who could be counted on-someone who got the job done no matter the challenge. His family proudly remembers that thanks to his tireless efforts, they never missed a meal.Tommy's strength extended beyond his professional life. He was a man of few words but immense presence. Those who worked alongside him respected him deeply-not just for his skill and work ethic but for his loyalty and generosity. He would give the shirt off his back for a friend or coworker without hesitation.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha Fila Crossland-the love of his life and his steadfast companion. Their bond was unbreakable, especially evident during Martha's final year when Tommy never left her side. Also preceding him in death were his father Thomas Allen Crossland Sr., mother Annie Opal Crossland, and brothers Bobby Allen Crossland, Gary Wayne Crossland, and Thomas Allen Crossland Jr.
Tommy is survived by his brother Roger Dale Crossland, sister Annie Mae Crossland, and brother Rocky Day Crossland. He leaves behind four children-Sharon Shudark, Christine Burkhart, Tom Crossland, and David Crossland-along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy of strength and perseverance.
A true Texan through and through, Tommy loved the land he called home. Whether working outdoors, hunting on a ranch, fishing from a boat, or simply sitting quietly in a deer blind at dusk-those were the moments when he felt most at peace. He found joy not only in these pursuits but also in sharing them with others. He delighted in seeing others succeed in fishing or hunting and was always ready to lend a hand or share advice. Tommy also had a deep appreciation for good food-especially barbecue and fish fries-and there was never a shortage of either when he was around. His gatherings were filled with hearty meals and quiet laughter shared among friends and family. In the final weeks of his life, Tommy experienced a profound transformation that brought immeasurable comfort to those who loved him most. Though he had long struggled with faith and resisted committing to God throughout much of his life-even while married to Martha, whom he lovingly referred to as a prayer warrior-his heart changed just two weeks before his passing. In those precious days, Tommy accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His family rejoices knowing that heaven welcomed him with open arms and that one day they will see him again. To those who knew him best-his children especially-Tommy was more than just a hardworking man; he was their hero. A man of steel willpower who endured trials without complaint. A protector whose love was fierce yet steady. A husband whose devotion never wavered. A father whose legacy will live on through every story told around campfires or dinner tables Dad-we love you more than words can say. You were our rock, our example of strength, a true legend. We will carry your memory with us always until we meet again on the streets of heaven. Give God the glory-for He has called home one of His strongest warriors.
