Vesta Darlyne Evans, a woman of grace, devotion, and artistic spirit, passed away on May 6, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on September 11, 1928, on a farm near Glasco, Kansas, she lived a life woven with love, dedication, and ceaseless creativity.
Vesta’s early years were humbly spent attending a one-room rural elementary school before graduating from Glasco Rural High School. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Kansas State College, after which she devoted a year to teaching in a rural one-room schoolhouse—an early testament to her heartfelt commitment to community and education.
In June 1948, Vesta met and married the love of her life, Bob Evans. Their union would span 65 remarkable years, marked by steadfast partnership and mutual support through numerous relocations dictated by Bob’s career. Together, they journeyed from Glasco to Malvern, Arkansas; Alice and Corpus Christi, Texas; Yuma, Colorado; Bella Vista, Arkansas; and finally returned to Corpus Christi, Texas. After Bob’s early retirement in 1987, they warmly embraced their years in Bella Vista, forging new friendships, reveling in golf, and indulging a shared passion for travel before returning to Corpus Christi in 2009 to be nearer to their beloved children.
Vesta was an ever-present gardener whose enchanting flower gardens brightened every home they graced. Her hands also crafted quilts, stuffed toys, and myriad cherished projects for her grandchildren, each stitch a labor of love. A dedicated member of her church, she found joy and purpose in spiritual service. For over thirty years, her soul resonated with the melodious ringing of the handbell choir, while bridge and golf brought her countless hours of delight and camaraderie.
Her proudest accomplishments were not only in her family and crafts but in the meaningful church work she wholeheartedly embraced.
Vesta is survived by her devoted children—Kathy Koch of San Antonio, TX; Marty Evans and his wife Carol of Corpus Christi, TX; Mark Evans and his wife Rita of Portland, TX; and David Evans and his wife Peggy of Bella Vista, Arkansas. Her legacy flourishes through her cherished grandchildren Sara Hopkins, Kevin Koch, Jeffrey Evans, Kelly Dean, Chad Evans, Cody Evans, Shea Evans, Justin Sefcik, Whitney Sefcik, and seventeen great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her warmth and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob Evans; her parents, Rob and Laura Barnum; her sisters, Maxine Pinney and Neva Rogers; and her brothers, Nile Barnum and Otto Barnum.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 9, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Brookdale Trinity Towers in Corpus Christi, TX. Following this, her burial will take place on May 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
Vesta Darlyne Evans leaves behind a profound legacy of love, artistry, faith, and dedication to family. Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her, and her memory will continue to bloom eternally in the hearts of her loved ones.
