Vicki Smith

August 22, 1949 — November 19, 2023

Vicki Sue Frey Smith, 74 years old from Odem Texas, peacefully passed away on Sunday morning on November 19th holding her husband’s hand.

Vicki was born on August 22, 1949, in Sinton, Texas to Lloyd and Quida Maude (Peggy) Frey. Her father spent 23 years in the Navy, so Vicki moved from Texas to California to Alaska to Pennsylvania, and back to Texas in 1962, settling in Odem where Vicki began the 8th grade.

Vicki and her future husband, Charles (Chuck) Smith, both started the 8th grade together and began dating the summer prior to their senior year of high school. They married on May 29th, 1969, at the First Baptist Church of Odem and lived in Corpus Christi. It was in Corpus where she began her business career at Sessions Mortgage Company. Their daughter, Melani Jo, was born in January of 1972 and shortly thereafter they all moved back to Odem. Vicki was a loving stay-at-home mom for several years until she became the secretary at FBC Odem where she served for over 20 years.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Peggy Frey and her nephew, Clayton Lovett.

Vicki is survived by her husband of 54 years, Chuck Smith, daughter Melani Imhoff, son-in-law Larry B. Imhoff Jr, and granddaughters Hannah Elizabeth Imhoff and Abigail Catherine Imhoff. We all had the great privilege of taking care of her over the past few years and will treasure each and every moment. She is also survived by her sister, Sherry Lowery, Sister-in-law, Patricia Crevison, nephews Chad Lovett and Kevin Carter as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her BFF, Ann Isaacs.

Vicki loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a strong supporter of her husband as a deacon’s wife and later as a pastor’s wife. Vicki strongly believed in Jesus Christ and accepted Him at an early age. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odem for over 40 years. Her life revolved around her family and the church. She had an open heart and an ear, always ready to listen. She always provided great words of wisdom, encouragement, and one-of-a-kind wit to anyone who had the pleasure of her presence.

Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for December 2nd at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Odem officiated by Pastor Steve Winters. Graveside services will follow immediately at the Bethel Cemetery in Odem.

Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. Proverbs 31:10-12
