Wilson Hrncir

Wilson R. Hrncir, age 91, of Robstown, Texas, passed away on August 18, 2010. He was born on December 16, 1918 in Halletsville, Texas, the son of Rudolph and Agnes Hrncir. A resident of Robstown since 1919, he was a graduate of Robstown High School and was a farmer. Mr. Hrncir served in World War II as a tank driver and then a tank commander in the 3rd Armored Division, First Army. He was in combat from one week after “D” day to the end of the war in Europe. Hrncir received the EAME Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and a Purple Heart. He survived three tanks that were destroyed by German guns. Following his honorable discharge, on October 9, 1945, he married Virginia Hall of Roanoke, Virginia. After the war, he resumed farming. He was the treasurer for RVOS for 30 years, was a member of the V.F.W. Post 7841, the American Legion Post 155, was a longtime member and usher of the First United Methodist Church in Robstown, and was a past director of the Robstown Community Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Oscar and Eugene. He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Robstown, Texas; his daughter, Mary Ard of Corpus Christi, Texas; two grandchildren, Jason Ard and Amy Ard of San Antonio, Texas. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Friday, August 20, 2010 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Barbara Dyke officiating. Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to the First United Methodist Church in Robstown.
