Albert Baca

April 9, 1931 — January 14, 2022

Robstown

Albert John Baca went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, January 14th, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Orange Grove, Texas on April 9, 1931 to John and Mary Baca. He was the oldest of two children.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette Theresa Baca; his parents and sister, Margaret Baca.

He grew up as a young man helping his dad farm for various landowners.

He enlisted in the army September 9, 1952 and was honorably discharged September 8, 1954.  He was with the anti-aircraft and guided missiles branch of the United States Army at Fort Bliss, Texas during the Korean War.

He married the love of his life, Bernadette “Bernice” Theresa Sherek, on April 5, 1956.  They raised 4 beautiful daughters together.  He worked a short while for Trans Continental Pipeline, then went to Pontiac (a.k.a. Champlin) Refinery until he retired in 1988.

His love of growing things would continue for the rest of his life. He never met a plant that didn’t flourish under his green thumb, always tending a bountiful garden and was generous to a fault.

His love of fishing led them to own a place on Lake Mathis. He loved it there so much and created many sweet memories to last a lifetime for his children and grandchildren.

He had an infectious smile and never met a stranger.  He was loved by all who knew him. His walk on this earth exuded a peace and kindness that was inspired by his Catholic faith.

He is survived by his four daughters, Cathy (Harry) Burger of Sweeny, Judy (Chuck) Barber of Robstown, Jennifer (Eugene) Woodworth of Liberty Hill and Patty (John) Callaway also of Robstown; 9 grandchildren: Travis (Hailee) Burger, Matthew (Alayna) Burger, Jarrett Barber, Jennie Barber Brittany (Noah) Mumm, Michael Woodworth, Michelle (Gabriel) McLemore, Jeff Callaway, Sandy Chang; 3 great grandchildren: Kyndle Burger, Chase Burkhardt, Aubrey Burkhardt; 1 great Great Grandchild, Graham Schmid; extended daughter, Beverly (Jim) Montgomery; and a 4 legged rescue dog named Goldie.

The family would like to recognize and thank all the men and women caregivers/ministers from Corpus Christi Rehabilitation Hospital, Spohn Hospital, and Angel Bright Hospice, Father Mark Wheelan, of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Robstown, Marilyn Hellums, family, friends and neighbors who graciously helped in any way.
