Charles John Sloate, age 59, of Sandia, Texas passed away at the home he loved, on May 24, 2022.  He was born in El Paso, Texas.

Charles graduated from Andress High School of El Paso.  He attended University of Texas at El Paso, Delmar College, and Fischer College.  Charles worked as an executive chef for 10 years.  He taught Culinary Arts at Delmar College.  He later became a General Manager for Sodexo Health Care working in hospital food service for 15 years.    Charles was working for Aramark at the Texas A&M University of Kingsville as Student Dining Hall Manager. Charles had a passion for the culinary arts and loved to cook and barbeque.  He was a member of the Texas Chef Association and was the Corpus Christi Chapter Chef of the Year in 2001, and 2003.  He was also a member of the American Culinary Federation, Inc.  Charles was a supporter of the Star Chefs By The Sea fund raising events for the March of Dimes and volunteered for the Annual Feast of Sharing. Charles enjoyed competitive shooting with his friends of the Texas Carbine Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ret. MSG Robert and Charlene Sloate, and his parents in law, Jimmy C. and Betty Mosier.

Charles leaves behind his wife, Jonnie Kay Sloate; son, William J. Thompson(Christi); grandchildren, Amanda Penny, Matthew and Eric Thompson;  sisters, Micaela Sloate, Vivian DeVeau, Alexandria Lowery, Regina and Jack Hevron; and brothers, Bob Sloate(Donna), and Steve Mackey(Susie).
Charles' nieces and nephews brought him great pleasure.  They are, Nicole Villarreal, Skyler and Josanna Mosier, and Dr. Natalie Mosier, April and Cody Martin, Lauren and Billy Ratterree, Jaxxson Hevron and Chief Master Sargent Candi Schneider.


Service for Charles will be held at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, July 8,  at 10:00AM.
