We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Sawyer-George Funeral Home, Inc.
Deanna Renee Southerland went to be with our lord on September 5th, 2022 after a valiant fight with health issues. She was 59. Dee was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She was born in Wilmington, NC to the late James & Martha Northrop and attended Topsail High school graduating in 1981.
After high school Dee worked in the family business at “Northrop’s Plant Farm”. In 1982 she married her high school sweetheart, Greg Southerland and went on a wonderful journey in which they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on August 15th, 2022. Dee started her professional medical career in 1996 becoming a Certified Medical Assistant graduating from Miller-Motte Business College. She worked for several doctors and medical firms in the Wilmington and Charleston area until 2014 at which time she moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. She then focused on a new most coveted role of being the best “Gammy” ever to her grandchildren, Penelope, and Axel.
She is survived by her loving husband, Greg Southerland; special pet, Rayne; her beloved children, Brandon Southerland, Brent Southerland (Stephanie); her beautiful grandchildren, Penelope Southerland, Axel Southerland, Joseph Smith, Mason Southerland; sister, Amy Palmer (Richard); brother, James Northrop (Susie) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dee had a love for travel and her favorite place to visit was the Great Smoky Mountains of NC & TN, which she dreamed of moving to one day. She had a special skill of making everyone around her feel welcomed and at home. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
