March 14, 1945 — September 14, 2021

Robstown

Donald James Mathisen, Sr. (Pawpaw), went home to be with the Lord on September 14th, 2021.

Donnie was born on March 14, 1945 in Houston, Texas to Ralph and Mabel Mathisen. He was raised and spent most of his life in Corpus Christi, Texas. After high school, he joined the pipefitter union where he began to attain lifelong skills of pipefitting and welding. He worked most of his career at Lyondell Bassell where he retired in 2009 after 30 years as a Maintenance Supervisor.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Sandra of 56 years; four sons, Jamie (Leah), Wesley (Patti), Timothy (Angie), Randall (Aislinn); 12 grandchildren, Wyatt (Caitlynn), Haylee (Jeremy), Alyssa, Caleb, Michael, Montgomery, Wesley (Faith), Emily, Hattie, Preston, Aaron, Ian; two great grandchildren, Crimsyn and Cora; brother, Phillip; sister-in-law, Roseanne and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Donnie was preceded in death by his father, Ralph; his mother, Mable Poynter; stepfather, Bob Poynter, and his beloved brother, Jack who had such an important impact on his life and helped him become the man he was. Never has there been two brothers as close at these two.

Donnie honored the truth of Christ: he respected and honored his wife for 56 years, he raised his boys to know and follow the truth of the Bible, his family and friends all knew what he believed about Jesus and how important his faith was to him. It was his desire to lead in this way; therefore, his legacy is this, a family is no family at all unless Christ is at the center.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at River Hills Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Monday, September 20, 2021 at River Hills Baptist Church. Those having the distinguished honor to serve as honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren: Wyatt, Caleb, Michael, Montgomery, Wesley, Preston, Aaron, and Ian.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shankar Pawar, missionary to India and Jack Rantho, missionary to Botswana, Africa. All donations can be given to River Hills Baptist Church with designation to either Shankar or Jack.
