Gauge Mikal Calahan, age 19, passed away June 5, 2021, in his hometown Sandia, Texas. His family moved to Orange Grove, TX when Gauge was 4 years old. Gauge played on the Varsity Basketball Team at Orange Grove High School and graduated in 2020, he attended Texas A & M Kingsville and completed his first year of college this May.
Gauge was an extraordinary young man with a personality that drew people to him and was someone who had a huge heart for everyone around him. His positive attitude and cheerfulness made him a popular person at school and in his community. One of Gauge’s greatest traits was that he loved to make everyone around him laugh. He loved a good joke and he was always telling one or playing one. Whether it was telling his uncle to “Put your one hand up,” speaking to his friends in spanish, or trying to embarrass his little sister by blaring his music as he picked her up from school, he always knew how to make people laugh until their stomachs hurt. His energetic personality was always captivating to be around, and he ensured that smiles always consumed the space around him. Gauge stood up for others and was always willing to help if you needed an extra hand. He had the gift to make you laugh. Gauge’s smile could light up a room.
Gauge loved to do many things; among his favorites were hunting, basketball, and video games. He took countless trips with his family and friends to hunt. Gauge loved playing basketball. He was a team player and gave his all to the game and his Bulldog family. Gauge enjoyed spending time playing video games with his friends and cousins.
The love of his life was his dog Boomer. Everywhere Gauge went, Boomer followed. Gauge wanted Boomer to share graduation with him, so they took High School Graduation photos together.
When it came to mannerisms, Gauge was taught by his loving parents how to respect everyone around him. His response to every adult was always “yes ma’am,” and “no sir.” His mannerisms made the perfect impression on every person that he encountered in his everyday life.
