George Downs

George Downs of Robstown, Texas, died Saturday, August 21, 2021 from COVID. He was 84 years old.

He was born on February 9, 1937, in Alabama, to Beatrice Downs.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret; brother, Rufus Downs; four children: Cindy (Richard) Vicari, Audrey Downs, Deborah (Jimmy) Duncan, and Dickie (Barbara) Downs; brother, Rufus Downs; 17 grandchildren, and 6.5 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice; his father-in-law, John T. Snipes; brothers, Sterling and ET, Downs; and sisters, Noni Wyatt, and Ernestine Downs.

He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in 1975. Then retired from Tuloso Midway ISD. He attended Del Mar College.

Most of all he loved his wife, his family, God, and this country.

He was the greatest man we have ever known. He was honest and sincere. He was the best papaw a kid could ask for. If you knew him, we are sure you liked him. He was a blessing to everyone. He will be greatly missed by our family, and the community.

Watch over us, and keep us safe, until we meet again. We love you.
