Obituary

James Edward McMeans, Sr. 93, of Calallen, Texas passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022. He was born June 22, 1928 in Agua Dulce, Texas to Clarence Dixon and Elvarena McCain McMeans and was the eighth of nine children.

Edward graduated from Banquete High School in 1947 where he played and excelled at all sports. After a long career in the oilfield, he retired from Citgo after 36 years. While living in Nueces County, his entire life, Edward was an active school board member at Calallen Independent School District, a long time baseball coach of Oil Belt Little League, and a dedicated member of Grace United Methodist Church. He especially loved all Calallen sports and attended as many baseball and football games that he could, until just recently. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, and caring for his small ranch in Orange Grove, affectionately called “the place,” until recently selling to a family friend. Another great love for him, good food and a big gathering of family and friends, always put a smile on Edward’s face. He was so very proud of his family and loved them unconditionally.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ella Mae Schroeder, Marie Davis, Elvarena Powell and Eddie Belle Carter; his brothers, Lee McMeans, Clyde McMeans, Clarence (Junior) McMeans and Oda (Odie) McMeans.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Charlotte Harden McMeans; daughter, Linda Lynch of Magnolia, Texas; his sons, Jimmy (Karla) McMeans of Corpus Christi, Wesley (Patsy) McMeans of Oakville, Texas, “bonus” son, Oscar Zepeda and his wife Zenaida and special friend, Pistol Rosebrock of Oakville, Texas. Edward was also PawPaw to grandchildren, Lori (Furrie) Lynch of Dallas, Texas, Graham (Honey) Lynch of Montgomery, Texas, Cody McMeans of Odem, Texas, Bryan McMeans of Odem, TX, Autumn McMeans of Odem, Texas Billy Reeves of Odem, Texas, Tim (Lilly) Raska of Skidmore, Texas, Josh Salinas of Corpus Christi, Texas, Austin (Lizzie) McMeans of Fort Worth, Texas and Karen (Justin) Robles of Corpus Christi.
