Mark Merritt

August 29, 1960 ~ September 15, 2020 (age 60)


Mark Taylor Merritt was born on August 29, 1960 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to Gordon and Caroline Merritt.

Mark was a 1978 graduate of Calallen High School and also attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. Mark went on to attend Texas State Technical Institute in Waco, Texas where he earned an associate degree in restaurant management, then going on to work for several years in the restaurant business.

Mark then found his true passion as a professional long-haul truck driver where he traveled extensively throughout all states, safely transporting goods to well over 3 million miles. Mark enjoyed the simplified lifestyle and freedom that being on the road afforded him, he was recognized by his industry as being a knowledgeable and reliable experienced veteran of the transportation industry as well as a master at navigating our nations interstate highway system.

Mark retired in 2019 after experiencing complications from a stroke and settled in the Corpus Christi area with his wife Anabella. Throughout his life, Mark enjoyed outdoor activities that included hunting, gardening, fishing and attending live music performances. Most notable were his passion for following Nascar Racing, Rock Music and Texas Aggie Football.

The Merritt family is grateful for the love and caring support his amazing wife Anabella provided to Mark with his health challenges.

Mark Taylor Merritt is survived by his father Gordon T. Merritt of San Antonio, Texas and his brother, Dean Merritt of Cedar Park, Texas and his wife Anabella Merritt of Portland, Texas.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother Caroline T. Merritt and grandparents Philip Horace Taylor Jr, Corinne Brashears Taylor, Arthur Merritt, Lois Merritt and extended Taylor and Brashears cousins in east Texas and Arkansas.

Mark will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. A private service will be held to honor and celebrate Mark’s life.
