On Monday, March 13, 2023, Mary Elizabeth Boeye, age 87 passed away in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born October 22, 1935, in Houston, Texas to Raymond Virgil Johnston and Evelyn Velma (Williams) Johnston.
Her earliest years were spent in El Campo before the family moved to Corpus Christi, where she was raised. She graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1953. She married John Vertrees Boeye, Jr., had three children together making Corpus Christi their home. She later returned to college and graduated from Texas A&M University - Kingsville with a BBA degree, graduating with honors as an accounting major. For many years she was the full charge bookkeeper for a firm of attorneys in Corpus Christi before retiring.
Mary was a person of many passions that included painting, reading, travelling to New England and Alaska, spending time with family and friends, and especially her love of duplicate bridge – for which she became exceptionally accomplished and well known. She also had a lifelong passion for furthering one's education and supported such endeavors in others.
Her life was shaped by a selfless, responsible and generous devotion to family and friends. They were truly blessed with her love, strength, character, humor, loyalty and supportive personality. She was deeply loved by her family, friends, nieces, nephews, cousins and In-laws alike.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Raymond Virgil Johnston and Evelyn Velma Johnston as well as her husband of 64 years, John Vertrees Boeye, Jr. all of Corpus Christi, Texas. She was also preceded in death by her sister Patricia Ann Gallagher and brother Raymond Virgil Johnston, Jr., both of Corpus Christi.
She is survived by her daughters Cynthia Ann Anderson and Elizabeth Lucile Boeye, and son John Robert Boeye. Her survivors also include three granddaughters: Sara Anderson, Bridgett Boeye, Hanna Kiely, and her seven great-grandchildren: John, Robert, Braden, Isabelle, Sydney, Jay and Forest.
Interment will be at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Mary, it was her wish for donations to be made to the American Contract Bridge League Educational Foundation.
