Robert Allen

December 2, 1946 — March 9, 2021

Corpus Christi

Robert "Bob" G. Allen, 74, of Corpus Christi, TX passed away on March 9, 2021.  Bob was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 2, 1946.  He graduated from Tuloso-Midway High School in 1966 and joined the United States Air Force after graduation.  Bob married his high school sweetheart, Judy, on December 8, 1966.  Bob and Judy recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.  Bob served 8 years in the Air Force and another 24 years at the Corpus Christi Army Depot where he retired as a Production Machinery Mechanic Supervisor in December 2008.  Bob was a dedicated member of the Corpus Christi Veterans Band for over 30 years playing baritone and then trumpet to honor Veterans across Texas and the United States, including playing at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC and in 2016, playing for the decommissioning ceremony of the USS City of Corpus Christi (SSN 705) at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  Bob has also served as a trumpet player with the Memorial Service Detachment Honor Guard at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery and has been instrumental in the Veterans Band fund raising efforts for the construction of a soon-to-be erected monument in recognition of members past and present who have served on the Honor Guard.

Bob will be remembered as a funny, generous man who never met a stranger.  Always willing to lend a helping hand and showing respect, kindness and tolerance to all people and animals alike.  As a lifelong animal lover, Bob has rescued, spayed and neutered numerous stray animals.  Bob's love for his family was evident in the joy he expressed in simply spending time with them and doing things like watching movies, taking his grandchildren on vacations across the country or just taking them to the park and his almost daily phone calls to his daughters just to check in on them.  Bob's love of travel began when he was stationed at Yokota AFB in Tokyo, Japan with his new bride (including a year served in Ubon, Thailand) and continued as he moved with his growing family to places such as Georgia, New Mexico, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Louisiana, and various cities across Texas and having traveled to many more places around the country.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Annette Lee Allen, and parents, Wyatt Preston and Barbara "Bobbie" Allen.  He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; daughters, Sherry Frederick (Stephen), Dawn Allen (Eric Shelton) and Kimberly Tajchman (Brian); his 3 grandchildren, Dalton Allen, Atlantis Allen and Hailee Huddleston; his brothers and sisters, Ron Allen, Jerry Allen (Barbara), Linda Bender (Mike) and Judy Allen, plus numerous nieces, nephews and his brothers and sisters of the Veterans Band of Corpus Christi.
