Robert Patten

July 24, 1951 ~ April 8, 2021 (age 69)

Robert “Bob” Patten, 69, July 24th, 1951- April 8th, 2021, was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to C.T. and Diana Patten. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donnie Patten, and his mother and father.  He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Patten of 43 years; sister, Faye Patten, and his son, Patrick (Rachel) Patten; daughter, Bonnie (Robby) Ashby and grandchildren, Kate, Anna, Oliver and soon to arrive, baby boy Owen Robert.

He graduated from Tuloso Midway, class of '69. He then attended Texas A&I and Sam Houston State. He was a member of Arlington Heights Church of Christ and later became a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

From an early age Bob was drawn to hunting and fishing which eventually became his passion for the outdoors. He knew every inch of South Texas hunting territory and fished the Texas Gulf Coast from early on. He loved sharing stories of ‘monster bucks’ and grand fishing tales. When it came to hunting, he was the best shot and was ready to prove it. Bob didn’t miss!  He was a member of the Texas Trophy Hunters and later the Texas Deer Association.

Bob loved fast cars. He used to drag race corvettes and ride around on Harley’s. He even put the largest engine on his boat possible! He was involved in sponsorship of local round track racing which led to a love of NASCAR.  Bob frequented the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth and enjoyed watching races every weekend.

Bob worked with his family business, Whitey Patten Transportation from an early age in the oil and gas industry which eventually led to hot shot work then heavy haul trucking. Bob was innovative when it came to the logistical challenges of moving very large equipment for compressor companies. His success in trucking and transportation allowed him to again follow his passion for the great outdoors when he started breeding white-tailed deer. Bob was very talented with his breeding operations and eventually bred some of the biggest bucks in South Texas.

He lived a full and adventurous life and was loved by many.
